Fishers of Men Central Texas Division, held its second annual Lake Travis Open Tournament at Tournament Point on Beautiful Lake Travis Oct 29th.
It would be a beautiful day in the Texas Hill County, the morning was a brisk 45 degrees, however it would warm up to a wonderful 75 by weigh in time.
With an open tournament every weekend on the lake we knew it would take over 12 pounds to win a check, the fish have been feeding very well, and the teams that could find the kicker would be set to finish in the top spot.
52 teams came out to fish the tournament, however only 5 teams would make the cut for a pay check, as well as two big bass payouts.
As the teams started arriving to the scales, one thing was evident, the day was full of action for most anglers, culling fish early was common, however finding good fish would be the critical factor. We had several limits come to the scales, mostly in the 7- 10 pound range, although the cut for a pay check would be 11:32 pounds.
39 of the 52 boats brought fish to the scales, with a total weight of 358.76 pounds of bass, and a total of 187 bass for a 1.385 pound average per fish.
First Place honors went to Terry Hall and Brent Watts from Austin they managed a strong limit weighing 13.46. “Our first few spots were not producing fish” Terry says. We made a trip up the river and went with plan B. Plan B worked they caught most of their fish in two hours, throwing Carolina and Texas rigged baits in 20 to 30 feet of water around boat dock and rocky drop offs.
Jacky Roberts of Leander and Tal Sprinkles from LagoVista took second place with 5 fish and the first place big bass for the day, the 5.86 kicker bass would give them a total weight of 13.41 pounds. Jacky reported that the first cast of the day (in the dark) was the 5.86 pound fish; he caught in a depression on a blue fleck power worm. He had fish located; this was a blessing to get this fish on your first cast. Staying mainly on the lower end they threw yellow magic baits, and finesse worms in 22-25 foot of water on steep rocky banks.
Third place went to the team of Pierce Lynnwood of Leander and Butch Patton with 12.36 Pounds.
Andrew Crabtree and Louis Bouray from Austin took 4th place with 11.56 pounds
The fifth and final paying spot went to Jack Waldrop Jr. from Austin and Stan Kamimski with of Cedar Park with 11.32 total pounds.
